Bilthoven – Dutch photograph of a ‘Jews not wanted’ sign
This photo of a sign in Bilthoven dates back to the German occupation of the Netherlands during the Second World War.
The text “Jews not wanted” is an antisemitic prohibition sign, intended to bar Jews from certain places.
Such signs were part of the Nazi measures to isolate and discriminate against Jews and to make antisemitism visible in daily life. It is the Dutch variant of the German “Juden unerwünscht” and was often placed with the cooperation of local authorities.
